Gary Waddock has hinted that he will make changes to the starting XI for Saturday’s visit of Bristol Rovers (k.o. 3pm).

Wanderers went down 1-0 to Gillingham on Tuesday night at Adams Park, prompting Waddock to think about introducing new faces into the side.

He told Chairboys Player: “It’s a big ask at this early stage of the season for everyone to perform at the level we’re looking for three times in a week. I may just freshen it all up.

“We were disappointed because it was our first home game and we wanted to perform and get a result for the fans. We’ll be looking to put that right, but we’re up against strong opposition in the shape of Bristol Rovers.”

Waddock has an added incentive to get one over on his former club as his friend and neighbour is a big Rovers fan.

“It’s a really good club,” he said. “I enjoyed my time down there. They’re passionate fans who want their club to do well and it’ll be nice to see one or two familiar faces in the crowd.

“A very good friend of mine, who is also my neighbour, is a Rovers fan and I’ll speak to Roger before the weekend.

“We might ignore each other on Sunday depending on what the outcome is! We talk about the two teams’ results and it’ll be good to come up against his team on Saturday. I’m looking forward to it.”

The Blues boss remembers his two-year spell at the club between 1992 and 1994 with great fondness, but only has his sets sights on one outcome.

“It wasn’t an ideal surface at Twerton Park - there was a slight slope which we used to our advantage at times. It’s a really nice part of the world with nice people, but I only want one result on Saturday. I wish them all the best for the rest of the season but not for this weekend.”

Tickets for the clash start from just £5 for juniors and £16 for adults – call 01494 441118 or buy online.
