Wanderers have added Aston Villa goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist to their squad to provide cover for Ryan Allsop for the final few weeks of the season.
With Alex Lynch currently sidelined through injury, manager Gareth Ainsworth has made the move before the loan transfer deadline to ensure strength in depth in the goalkeeping department, with first-team coach Barry Richardson currently deputising as an emergency option on the bench.
“Last season we lost our first-choice keeper Matt Ingram to injury at a critical time of the season and this time around we want to be better prepared in case anything happens to Ryan.
“Ben is a highly-rated young keeper who I’m sure will benefit by working with Barry Richardson and Ryan Allsop every day in training, and he’ll be fully prepared to step into the team if required.”
24-year-old Siegrist is a former Switzerland youth international who was part of his country’s squad for the 2012 Olympic Games in London, and has previously spent time on loan with Burton Albion, Cambridge United and Solihull Moors.
Earlier in his career, he won the Under-16 league and cup double with FC Basel in Switzerland and he helped Villa clinch the Premier Reserve League South and reach the FA Youth Cup final, as well as being a FIFA Under-17 World Cup winner with Switzerland in 2009.
Siegrist will remain with the club for the rest of the season, with an option to extending the deal to cover the play-offs if required.
