Ainsworth is expected to get a great reception from the travelling support following a successful seven-year spell in west London and he says that he is looking forward to seeing how far the Wycombe squad has progressed ahead of the start of the new season.
“In football, if anyone affiliates me with a club it will be QPR, said Wycombe's player/coach. “I was there for so long and did a lot of jobs there, from caretaker manager and reserve-team manager to captain and player on the pitch.
“I loved every minute - even though there was a bit of chaos sometimes - and it’s a club that is close to my heart and always will be.”
Tonight’s game is the Blues’ seventh match of pre-season and with the start of the new season less than two weeks away, Ainsworth says he is impressed with how the Wanderers squad is shaping up.
He said: “I’m really pleased with the way things are looking. The new signings have really settled in well and I think we have some awesome players in there.
“They are complimenting the players we already had and Doc taking over the captaincy was fantastic - I couldn’t have wished for a better person to do that with his experience and leadership.”
