Report: Newport 0-1 Wycombe

Sido Jombati curled home an exquisite free-kick in the 89th minute to hand Wanderers a second successive away victory at in-form Newport County.

Gareth Ainsworth's men arrived in South Wales looking to build on Saturday's success at Cambridge United but they'd have to do it the hard way, being greeted by a boggy, bobbly playing surface on their arrival at Rodney Parade.

It meant free-flowing football was at a premium and as such, neither side looked too threatening in front of goal, although both sides struck the woodwork with both Joe Jacobson and County forward Rhys Healey seeing efforts brush the outside of the post.

Matt Bloomfield stung the palms of Joe Day after a swift Wycombe counter-attack early on, before County danger man Josh Sheehan headed wide from a cross in what was a quiet performance from the Swansea loanee, expertly marshalled by Marcus Bean in the first half and Luke O'Nien in the second.

Bean was withdrawn at half-time after collecting a yellow card and surviving a potential second for a mis-timed tackle, but amidst a flurry of second-half changes, neither side was really able to stamp their authority with both defences being on top.

Jamal Blackman was called upon to tip away Sean Rigg's swerving low effort, and the keeper was in the right place to hold Healey's effort as the clock ticked towards 90 after the attacker skipped past Jombati.

But it was the Wycombe right-back who was to have the final say - playing only due to an injury to Michael Harriman - when he stepped up to take a free-kick awarded for a foul on Scott Kashket, and his curling shot clipped the underside of the crossbar before crossing the line despite the best efforts of keeper Joe Day.

It sparked stunning scenes of celebration from the 127 travelling fans as the Blues moved up to 8th in Sky Bet League Two with a third successive win, ahead of the visit of Hartlepool to Adams Park on Saturday.
