Lewis Montrose's late late drive handed Wycombe a share of the points against Shrewsbury Town after the visitors looked to have snatched the victory at Adams Park.
After atame opening 45 minutes, the game came to life when Andy Sandell fired home an unstoppable free-kick to give Wanderers the lead on 63 minutes.
Shrewsbury hit back with goals from substitutes Tom Bradshaw and Lionel Ainsworth which looked to have to won it for the league leaders as the game ticked towards full-time.
But Montrose struck in injury-time to salvage a draw for the Blues and knock the Shrews off top spot.
Gary Waddock named an unchanged side from the one which drew 0-0 at Aldershot Town, with Gareth Ainsworth and Kevin Betsy playing off Ben Strevens in a 4-3-3 formation.
Matt Harrold nearly stunned his former club inside the opening minutes, directing Mat Sadler's cross onto the foot of the right post.
Looking for their first win since the opening day, Wanderers responded and went close through Strevens and Alan Bennett, while at the other end, Mark Wright flashed a shot high over Nikki Bulls' bar.
Harrold threatened again on 18 minutes, this time looping his header narrowly over Wycombe's crossbar.
Following a burst forward, Matt Bloomfield saw a volley saved by Chris Neal before Strevens' cross-come-shot was comfortably gathered by the Shrews' stopper as the Blues looked to turn the tide.
The league leaders regained control and created a string of chances, but they couldn't find a way past the imperious Nikki Bull. Firstly, Bull pushed away substitute Kevin McIntyre's long range effort before the keeper produced a stunning save to tip Ian Sharps' header onto the bar from the resulting corner.
Wycombe were rocking slightly and needed the intervention of Gareth Ainsworth on the goal-line to keep the ball out following a goalmouth scramble, while at the other end, Ben Strevens and Matt Bloomfield both fired wide as they looked for some respite from the pressure before the break.
The second half began with Andy Sandell testing the handling of Chris Neal with a curling free-kick, but the Shrews should have been ahead on 51 minutes when an unmarked Jake Robinson saw a header saved by Nikki Bull.
Gary Waddock reacted to the visitors' exertions by bringing on Stuart Beavon and switching to a 4-4-2 formation, and the change worked in the Blues' favour as they forced a series of set pieces which resulted in the opening goal.
Matt Bloomfield was tripped on the edge of the area after the Shrews had struggled to clear a corner, and after smashing home from an identical position at Northampton last month, Andy Sandell was in no mood to hand the responsibility to anybody else.
And that decision was fully justified as the left-back sent an unstoppable drive into the top corner to give the Blues the lead and lift the atmosphere around Adams Park.
The balance of the game seemed to have evened out and neither side seemed to be on top, so Shrews boss Graham Turner reacted by making two substitutions and his decision paid dividends within two minutes.
Mark Wright sent a deep cross to one of the subs, Lionel Ainsworth, who returned the ball into the danger area and teenager Tom Bradshaw, who had also just entered the fray, headed home unmarked much to the frustration of the home side.
Moments later Gary Waddock gave Matt McClure the chance to steal the glory on his first ever senior appearance when he replaced Gareth Ainsworth but it was another substitute, Shrewsbury's Lionel Ainsworth, who looked to have grabbed the headlines with a stunning 25 yard left-footed drive on 86 minutes which flew into the top corner of Nikki Bull's net.
But the drama wasn't over, and with less than a minute of stoppage time remaining, Lewis Montrose smashed home the equaliser from 25 yards although keeper Chris Neal will feel he should have kept the ball out.
